Please be cautious when placing trust in this veterinary office. We brought in our new kittens, including one runt who was having some stomach issues. As a precaution, the vet performed a feline leukemia (FeLV) test and told us the kitten tested positive. We were then presented with euthanasia as the only option and were pressured to make that decision the same day. Thankfully, we chose to wait and do more research before making such a permanent decision. We quickly learned that young kittens can produce false positives on FeLV tests and that retesting is commonly recommended before considering euthanasia. We later took the kitten to another veterinary clinic for additional testing. The kitten was retested twice, and both results came back negative. This experience was deeply upsetting, and it’s hard to understand why such a serious recommendation was made without discussing retesting or other options first. I strongly encourage pet owners to seek a second opinion before making irreversible decisions regarding their animals.
